Engineering student design team

Design & Analysis Team Member

As a Design & Analysis team member, I developed a Python-based Joint Sizing Optimizer to automate the team's joint sizing spreadsheet, iterating through design parameters to determine the minimum joint dimensions that satisfied a safety factor of 1.25 across various joint failure modes. In addition to developing this tool, I contributed to the structural design of a 19-foot-long steel bridge in accordance with the 2024 SSBC American rules. I also created detailed 3D truss models using S-Frame software and simulated member deflections under a 2,500-pound load across 12 distinct load cases to ensure structural performance.

Co-Captain

As Co-Captain of UBC Smart City, I was responsible for the overall management of the team, with a primary focus on operations and marketing. I oversaw day-to-day team activities, coordinated internal workflows, and ensured effective communication across technical and executive sub-teams. On the marketing side, I led initiatives to strengthen our outreach, industry engagement, and brand presence. In this leadership role, I worked closely with team leads to align project goals, facilitated member onboarding and training, and helped position UBC Smart City for continued success in interdisciplinary competitions and research initiatives.

Transportation Team Lead

I served as the team lead for UBC Smart City's Transportation Team, managing a multidisciplinary team focused on designing a data-driven transportation model while preparing to compete in the Technation Competition. I spearheaded the development and early implementation of a Smart Parking System that integrated ultrasonic based parking infrastructure with a cloud-based mobile application. The frontend was developed using React Native within the Expo environment, while MQTT protocols were used to enable real-time communication between the mobile application and hardware modules monitoring parking availability. Our work centered on implementing real-time parking availability checks at Points of Interest (POIs) to improve user convenience and reduce search times.

Transportation Team Member

As part of UBC Smart City's Transportation sub-team, we developed a multi-interface compatible application using React Native within the Expo development environment to transition UBC SafeWalk services from a telephone-based system to an app-based platform. The app was designed to maximize convenience and enhance safety through a three-way communication link between users, safe-walkers, and supervisors. This project was a joint initiative between the Alma Mater Society (AMS) of the University of British Columbia - Vancouver and UBC Smart City, focused on enhancing campus safety and accessibility.

Work Experience

Ledcor Group of Companies | ESS Coordinator

Engineering Coordinator – CROWM, Design & Finance

Towards the latter part of my co-op term, I engaged extensively with CROWM (Calgary Rights-of-Way Management), alongside Design and Finance tasks. My primary responsibilities included processing construction data to produce accurate AutoCAD as-built drawings for submission and actively resolving non-compliant builds by liaising closely with clients, municipal authorities, and construction partners. I also trained and supervised incoming co-op members, enhancing their proficiency in estimation procedures, software applications, and documentation processes. Additionally, I managed comprehensive Excel trackers for as-built submissions, permitting, and billing processes, significantly optimizing timelines and enabling better allocation of team resources to high-priority projects.

Engineering Coordinator – Estimator

During the initial four months of my co-op term, I worked as an Estimator, primarily focused on telecommunications projects. My responsibilities included preparing detailed Fibre, Civil, and Aerial Make Ready estimates using PET . I processed fibre and civil design review counts using Excel to support final project billings upon completion of construction. Additionally, I performed detailed design markups, reviewed construction drawings to ensure constructibility, and approved final drawings utilizing Bluebeam.
